Small Claims Map is a free, plain-English guide to small claims court in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Each state page shows the dollar limit, filing fees, forms, deadlines and how to file, and lets you create a demand letter in a minute.
Every state page is built from official sources: state court self-help centers, court rules, statutes and official fee schedules. The sources for each state are listed at the bottom of its page, with the date we last checked them. Some fees are set by each county, so we show a typical range and an example county and tell you to confirm with your local clerk.
We review every state at least twice a year, in January and July, when most new laws and fee changes take effect, and update pages as soon as we learn about a change. If you spot something out of date, please tell us and include a link to the official source.
We are not lawyers, a law firm or a court, and we are not affiliated with any government agency. Nothing on this site is legal advice. For advice about your situation, contact your court's self-help center or a local legal aid organization; many offer free help.
The guides and the demand letter tool are free. We do not sell your information and we do not take money from lawyers or companies to change what a guide says. If we show ads in the future, they will be clearly marked and kept separate from the guides.
Small Claims Map is part of RobinClaimHood, a small network of free guides to getting back money you're owed.
